Barnstable recommendations

kara2006 Apr 12, 2012 05:54 AM

On Cape for a long weekend. We have to do carry out due to dog situation. Did Inaho last night and picked up snacks at the new Barnstable market (thanks for a heads up on the market). Any dinner recommendations for tonight?

Good takeout is a challenge. The Dolphin does a pretty good job. Nothing is extraordinary but nothing is bad either. Think fresh fish dishes, some beef as well. A bit pricey for the quality. Cooke's in Hyannis is good fried fare. Their broiled dishes aren't great although the swordfish is pretty good. Problem is fried seafood doesn't travel all that well. Avoid the clam plates. Crazy at $19 and they buy the cheapest clams possible with very tiny bellies. You could always go to any fish market and have them steam a couple of lobsters for you. Pick up some coleslaw and you have a decent meal. On Main Street in Hyannis there are 3 very good Italian/American choices. Alberto's, Fazio's and Colombo's. Alberto's is the most expensive but the best of the three in my opinion.

Can't leave the pup in the car for an hour or so? Shame.

Pup barks when left alone too long and we don't want to be THAT couple with an obnoxious dog. Usually rent cottages but there was a glitch.
Thanks for the recommendations - you are one of our "go to's" when we are on the Cape.

Momo in E. Sandwich has good options for take out but pricey. I heard good things about the "
new" Amari but cannot comment. Thai on Independence in Hyannis, close to B'Stable? Not sure Fromage a Trois is open on the weekend..near the train stop on 149 in B' Stable they did have nice pastas and Burrata but it looks closed up as I mentioned.

Phelana, what have you heard about Amari's? I'd LOVE that place to improve but I've heard it's actually gotten worse under new ownership! Like you however, I have no personal experience since it changed hands.

I've always had good luck with the Old Yarmouth Inn on 6A in Yarmouth Port. Dolphin is good. Never got take out from Lyric.

I work in E. Sandwich and locals have been to Amari and liked it under new ownership. Personally, I have too many favs elsewhere to take a risk.

Given your news that Gina's (different post) is open and as good as ever, we may have to figure something out for the dog. Gina's is a great way to start the season. Thanks.

Ed is in the parking lot at Gina's (Valet) so can watch the doggies.
