I tried a case in Bakersfield for a couple of weeks and ate a lot of Basque under the guidance of local Bakersfield counsel. The clear winner was Wool Growers, at 620 E. 19th St. (the corner of 19th and Baker). Also good was the Noriega Hotel, but not as good as WG.

Just ate at Wool Growers last Saturday with a large multi-generational group of relatives (the best way to go) and enjoyed it immensely. You will not go away hungry. I loved the waitresses--they all look like they've been working there for at least 20 years. This is a wonderful place for a big group of friends or family.

The Wool Growers for sure. Used to drive up from LA just for a meal.

A few other GREAT Basque restaurants in Bakersfield include: Noriega's Hotel, Chalet Basque, Matia's Basque Cafe, and of course Woolgrowers. These are all Spanish Basque Restaurants, my personal favorites are Chalet Basque and Noriega's. There is also a French Basque restaurant called Benji's. Try them out!
