Not-Too-Pricey Great Eats Walking Distance from Gold Coast Area?
There are a lot of possibilities in this neighborhood. Reasonably-priced food within a mile of Gold Coast: 1) Big Bowl on Cedar just east of where State & Rush come together---I would call this the star of reasonably-priced Gold Coast restaurants, delicious Pan-Asian meals in a cheery atmosphere. 2) For breakfast or lunch, Original Pancake House on Bellevue has egg skillets, omelets, waffles. 3) Corner Bakery, corner of Cedar & Rush. 4) A lot of the more expensive restaurants have inexpensive items at lunchtime---specials, sandwiches. All have websites with menus so you can see what you are getting into. 5) There's always Lou Malnati's for pizza and they have other stuff too. 6) A 10-minute walk from Gold Coast, in entrance lobby of Water Tower Place Mall, is Wow Bao that has Asian "bowls" for under $6. 7) Foodlife, the food court at Water Tower Place, is run by Lettuce Entertain You so has decent food and not chain fast food junk and you can always get a reasonable meal or snack. It's in the rear of the second floor, kind of hard to find: ask. 8) One more: Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Allspice Cafeteria on second floor is good at lunch though not at other meals (the chef stations are all open at noon). Public is welcome. It's one block east of Michigan Avenue right behind Apple in block defined by St Clair, Fairbanks, Erie, and Huron.
There are so many fabulous places to eat at all different price points; where to begin? Where are you staying? What kind of food do you like? What kind of atmosphere? What do you consider reasonable? What time of day: Breakfast, lunch, dinner? Tasting menu, drinks menu, small plates...?
Chi is seriously one of the best food towns. You will def fine way too many options to try in one visit.
I'm a NY'er (and vegetarian), and I live for my Chi trips. Best food evah!
(But meh on the deep dish pizza - so sue me.)
