Fresh Sardines for Roasting Whole

Does anyone know where I might be able to obtain fresh sardines outside of the city? Western 'burbs specifically.

Thanks!

I know that Assi has them. Not sure if they are fresh or frozen.

I know I just saw some at a whole foods ; cant remember if it was wynnewood or fairmount in the city. You just need to call all your lovcal wholefoods or decent fish markets to see who has or can get yhem

I've never seen a sardine I'd be willing eat at a Philly fish market (and I always look for sardines just in case).
Since they have to be ultra-fresh, I'd ask Ippolitos in South Philly to order some for you. I ordered some excellent sardines through them a year or two ago (sort of - when Ippolitos/Samuels & Sons were attempting to sell at farm markets as SeaStainables. They source from the same places).

The new Whole Foods near Chadds Ford had them last week but you might want to call around to see who has what.

I know I'm not in your area (I'm in VA), but I've asked my local fishmongers about this as well, & it appears that except for the Xmas holidays, you're unlikely to automatically find them anywhere; however some fish markets may be able to order them for you outside of the holiday season.

They are quite easy to get in the city here. Ippolito's and Anastasi's stock them. In the western 'burbs I do not know. Of course the definition of "sardine" is flexible and open to interpretation.
