Any $1 oyster specials around Back Bay?

Just wondering if anyone knows of any spots in the back bay that offer dollar oyster specials after work, specifically Fridays.

  1. Turner Fisheries in the Westin Copley Place (Back Bay) has a Friday special.

Check the calendar at the bostonchefs website for similar deals.

It has been awhile, but last time I had them at Turner's they were poorly preshucked in the kitchen, had clearly been exposed to air for some time and were inferior. I ordered a half dozen and left two behind.

Marliaves has a special, and they treat their bivalves with proper respect.

+1 for Marliave. They do a proper shuck and serve cold ostras over ice. The dollar oyster deal is a great value for money and well worth skipping out of the office for at 4. Also find it useful for a little break/regroup spot if you are entertaining tourist visitors. Feels very old school Boston and my guests have enjoyed it.

          Downstairs, right?

I've only been at lunch to the revamped place and the downstairs is sorta dead then....

But dollar oysters gets my ear .....

That little downstairs room looked closed when I was at Marliave recently.

There's the upstairs dining room, the entrance-level main bar and then a little bar downstairs from that. I've always just eaten at the main bar (and gotten my dollar oysters there too).

I liked the little downstairs nook the one time they were serving there. Last few times I've slumped into a cozy banquette on the ground floor level and been very happy.

      2. Go to turner fishery. I was there a few weeks ago and the oysters were pretty good.

interesting. Most reviews say the dollar oyster deal at turner is terrible with old, pre-shucked oysters. Were you there for the dollar oysters?

I love Marliave, they have great dollar oysters and cocktails. I also love that it isn't a hugely popular spot. It's so cozy in there.

pretty good oysters are like pretty good sushi

          2. Marliave does dollar oysters as well as dollar raw clams daily from 4-6p and again at 9-10p. Ive haven't seen anyone in that tiny basement bar in a long time. I almost always dine in the first-floor bar, which now has much-cozier banquette seating, a big improvement over the tables they (re)opened with. Not sure if the upstairs dining room and bar are open for the early special.

            1. Not really to your request, but worth mentioning, Sundays at Myers + Chang, dollar oysters and $3.50 Gansett tall boys from 8pm till they run out. They cap you at a dozen oysters, not that I can usually eat more than that, anyway.

              1. $i.00 oysters at Abbey Park in East Milton SQ. Every Wed.
Some of the freshest oysters I've ever had! They are farmed in Duxbury?
I went back 3 weeks in a row just to be sure and each time was as good as the first.

                1. I see the $1 at Turner Fishery for Friday evening. Is there anything comparable in Back Bay on another day of the week? TIA

This is sort of my bible when it comes to specials:

                    Mentioned above, too.
I see Pigalle has a deal on many Fridays.

I checked that. Unfortunately one of our group can't make Friday. Since we work in Back Bay we are looking there or the South End. Thanks.

                  2. +1 Marliave. It is my little hideaway. I also prefer the upstairs seating but if you are in for just oysters and some beverages the downstairs bar works fine as well.
