Smoke Daddy's is baack. Next weekend only
So I found a surprise treat in my Easter basket! Checked mah email and Smoke Daddy is a maniac, he is driving his monster smoker up from Georgia and serving up bbq and sides April 12, 13 & 14. He will be offering Steve the Meat Guy's Magic Brisket among other delicacies. I'm making room in my freezer now.

So glad I got up there before 4:00 today. The line had not yet formed and Michael was able to chat and even take a few phone calls. I tried to convince him to stay but he insists on the Georgia thing.
ARRRRRGH.....ever try driving from Lansdale to Collegeville with a whole hot Smoke Daddy's chicken on the passenger seat? Ohhhh, the aroma. Torture.
Hurry back, Michael. You have fans.

Nice CP! Musta missed you by an hour. Did you hear SD's new ring tone? Boiling up the bones now from my smoked chicken. Can't decide if I will make creamed chicken and mushrooms over toast or chicken pot pie. I wish he would return for good. Since his new digs are near Atlanta I told he needs to call his place down there Sherman's BBQ.

re: StrandedYankee
You should call in advance as he was really busy yesterday. This way, you avoid a long wait.
Here's his contact info. I'm sure he'd email you the menu if you call. I'd post but then my post would probably be removed.

That's great news. I really loved his chicken but never expected he'd be dragging that enormous thing up for just a weekend. I smell something else going on. Maybe there's too much competition down there and he'll be back for good.

re: Chefpaulo
A girl can dream CP! But his email heading says Creole Daddy's. No fried chicken this coming weekend but he will be selling smoked chicken. Have you ever tried that? It is yummy the first night but makes for such bodacious leftover fun. I've used his smoked chicken in tacos, split pea soup and on top of pizza, as well as in a chicken sandwich on whole wheat with mayo and avocado slices.
I sure hope you are right.-

re: Chefpaulo
It's no joke CP! Someone else posted about getting emails from SD. Not sure if that got removed or something. I stayed on Daddy's email list just hoping and hoping. I'm planning to go on thursday so I'll report back then. I would not advise going too late on saturday as he will be sold out for sure.
I fear a return of SD for good is too much to wish for but perhaps a warm homecoming might mean more visits. Would dearly love to get his smoked turkey for Thanksgiving again. /drool.

re: Bacchus101
I received 3 emails from Michael (aka, Smoke Daddy), the last a couple of days ago, so I'm sure this is not an April Fools joke. The first was inquiring if people on his mailing list would be interested, which of course I replied positively to, and to which he then replied that knowing me (as a regular customer), he wasn't surprised. The third confirmed that due to the positive outpouring of exclamation points, the dates are as GC posted.
I doubt he's moving back. I think this is probably a one-off since he is back in town for something else personal (maybe he still has relatives here, or is selling a house or something). Any gratuitous speculation that there is too much competition down South can be ignored, since we already knew Bacchus didn't like his BBQ for some reason. But if he gets a good turnout this time, maybe it will become a two-off, three-off...
So Smoke Daddy's is definitely OPEN for Thursday, Friday and Saturday April 12-14 this week (takeout only):
Smoke Daddy's Barbecue
Open This Thursday, 5 to 7:30 PM
Friday & Saturday, 4 to 7:30 PM
Lansdale Eagles Club
800 West Fifth Street
Lansdale, PA
Corner of Fifth & MitchellIf you've never been, this is some of the best BBQ the Philly area had to offer, at least up until he decided to move to Georgia this past January. He's a former competitive BBQer, and I think his ribs (baby, St. Louis, or Carolina cut), chicken, and burnt ends are my favorites. Also love his homemade sausage sandwiches. He also serves pulled pork, pulled chicken, and brisket (he's using special meat this time, so the brisket is more expensive). Barbecue Sides: beans, cole slaw, smashed potatoes, mac & cheese, collard greens, fiesta corn.
His sauce is a honey-containing version of South Carolina sauce and he smokes his ribs with his dry rub and then puts a sweet glaze on them. Definitely the best ribs I've had in the Philly area.
As a guide for prices: Whole St. Louis rack, $23.50; whole smoked chicken, $12.75.
And that's all I know!

re: ftarazu
Already planning my purchases for tomorrow ftarazu! I simply can't resist his baked beans. I'll be getting smashed potatoes just for convenience. I want at least one smoked chicken and I've already planned the leftovers. (if there are any) Gonna try the new fat daddy's four meat sandwich or something like that. Too lazy to bring up the menu he sent out. Might get the collards, they go so well with the smashed. I'll probably get ribs on friday and if I go on saturday I'm going as soon as he opens to avoid disappointment if he sells out. I'll be the one wrapped around his leg and whimpering for him to stay in Lansdale and not leave us again. I'm so looking forward to tomorrow night!

re: rswanson2
Cash only but it is so worth the slight inconvenience. His response was overwhelming yesterday. So much so that he was not able to answer his phone. And traditionally friday was his busiest day and thurs used to be quiet.
He is keeping it simple this trip, bbq, sides and ribs. Today I am planning on two pulled chicken sandwiches and two orders of bbq beans. My friend John is gonna get the fat daddy four meat sandwiches.
For the bbq you can get sandwiches, platters or by the pound. One woman had a 300.00 order yesterday.
At least SD knows that he ever moves back from GA hordes of bbq deprived hounds will throw cash at him.
He is at the back of the Lansdale Eagles Club outside. There is a big sign on the eagles club joyfully proclaiming his brief return. Bring a bit more cash than you think you will need because when the smell from his monster smoker hits you there is no telling what will happen.
