Looking for great food in or near Newport. Asian? Thanks

    1. Only in Newport and only Asian?

My favorite sushi in the area is San Shi Go on Main St. on the Balboa Peninsula. Bluefin would be my second choice in the area.

If you are willing to drive, there are excellent Chinese options in Irvine, Thai Nakorn in Garden Grove, plenty of Vietnamese options in Garden Grove, and non-sushi Japanese restaurants in Tustin and Garden Grove.

Agreed...the Asian options in Newport are not known for their deliciousness nor their authenticity. Please adhere to ocshooter's recs.

Did you ever get to 242 Fusion? I have often planned on giving it a try, but the timing and location have never come together for me. I think I recall you said your wife had tried it once before and enjoyed it (IIRC?).

It was good. It is not a traditional sushi spot and it is not cheap. I tend not to order a ton of rolls when I go out for high end sushi, but I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off or having a bad meal.

I think that is one of the reasons I really prefer San Shi Go over Bluefin. I just feel Bluefin focuses more on the rolls.

Never had a single roll at Bluefin in my 4 visits. Just tell them you want a more traditional omakase with more nigiri if that's what you want.

I have only eaten at the tables, but looking at the menu, there are a lot of interesting rolls. I have had some fantastic omakase meals at San Shi Go, so I stick with it. A little less crowded, and I like being on the Peninsula, though parking sucks.

        2. Not Asian, but do not miss Sabatino's for the best sausage you might ever have.
