Restaurants for lunch, ok for kids, serving offal?

  • 4

This may be a long shot, but I thought I'd try. Am visiting Fullerton from the Bay Area and am pretty excited about the dinner reservations I already have lined up, which include Animal. One of my friends, however, is only able to meet up for lunch, with her kids in tow (a baby and a 4 year old), but she was really intrigued by the menu at Animal and wants to try some offal.

So I'm wondering if there are any restaurants that serve offal, are open for lunch and would be ok for kids? It doesn't have to be at the same level as Animal, obviously, Just looking for a few interesting things she could try. Of course, I also want the restaurant to be really good. Anywhere within 1.5 hours of Fullerton is fine, any price range. Thanks!

  1. Llamarada near Pasadena would be option. Lots of different different dishes with offal and sweetbreads, but enough pedestrian choices like carne asada for the toddler.

Another option along the Animal lines (i.e. high end, dinner only) would be Osteria Mozza.

    1. Btw.. I think kids would be fine at Animal. The atmosphere is not very fussy.

      1. Well you mention Animal which is nowhere near Fullerton so I'll make another LA suggestion.

Pizzeria Mozza usually has several offal options and is fine for kids. Open for lunch. My four year old and I ate some bone marrow their a few weeks ago. If the kids don't love pizza, the meatballs are great.

I'd probably give Animal a try with kids but isn't open for lunch and doesn't open until 6 which probably wouldn't fly with the baby.

Thanks for the ideas, guys! The friends I'm going to Animal with have already arranged for baby-sitters, so it wouldn't be cool to invite my friend and her kids to their night out!

But I will definitely try to go to Pizzeria Mozza then. Good to hear that you brought a 4 year old.
