A winter tomato is not worth the price
Anyone seen this? A sad commentary on the food industry.
Food writer Barry Estabrook talks about abuses in the Florida tomato fields — where all of those winter tomatoes are grown. His book Tomatoland will be released April 24.
I read "Tomatoland" last early summer, so it is not new just now.
The author was interviewed on NPR back then as well. I'd recommend for the insight the book offers into the despicable conditions that exist for the pickers, and the abuses perpetuated by the industry. It is not exactly a food book.
