  • 6

We are having a late dinner at Minetta Tavern next week. Which burger to order and why?

Thanks for opinions.

  1. Neither. Get the pig's trotter.

But seriously... I'm of two minds on the Black Label Burger.

Is it good? Yes. No one would argue that.

Is it worth the price? I don't think so. But I have the unfortunate tendency to do math when looking at menu prices, calcualting the costs of raw ingredients and labor and whatnot. I think it's quite overpriced for what it is. I did an analysis of the BLB on another thread that I won't go into here - http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/7073...

That said, if you ordered the regular burger you'd probably spend your meal wondering what it was you were missing out on... so, for a first-timer, maybe go with the BLB. You can decide for yourself if it's worth the price of admisson. Even at $26 it's less expensive than many of the other menu options.

The Black Label Burger, at $26, is "worth it" because it comes with fries while the Minetta Burger, at $17 does not. The fries at Minetta Tavern cost $10. So at $9 more the BLB is actually something of a bargin if you are going to order French Fries.

That's if you think fries are worth $9. Fries cost all of a quarter to make, even excellent ones.

And the regular burger is a bit overpriced as well (especially as it doesn't come with fries, which all nice restaurant burgers should automatically, IMHO) - comparing the two is purely relative.

But yes, if you were planning on getting one of the burgers, and you were going to add fries to the regular one... makes no sense, might as well go with the BLB.

    2. Get the black label burger. It's delicious and worth the price.

      1. To take the trouble to get a reservation to go to Minetta Tavern and to ask which burger you should order, to me, appears to mean that you should go for the Black Label just to see what the fuzz is all about.
