Jade Gardens Gone

In an email this morning from the Greenburgh Town supervisor, Jade Garden, at 156 Central Avenue will be remodeled by a new lessee and converted into a sports bar. The work should commence shortly.

  1. That stinks. We ordered from them last night. I love their turnip cakes in XO sauce. Still have some beancurd skin rolls in my fridge. Were you notified in one of those Feiner email blasts? Is the info posted anywhere?

Yes, it is a direct quote from Paul Feiner's email blast.

    2. No big loss. It's a wonder they stayed opened for as long as they did. The food was pretty bad and Central Seafood is only mile up the road. The times I went it was empty.

      1. What a bummer...really nice people. Granted it was hit or miss but when they were on they were on. It was our go to for Chinese after a couple of awful meals and horrendous service at Central Seafood.

I know this is off the wall, but when I was a kid we used to eat at Jade Gardens on Jerome Avenue - we lived on McLean in Yonkers. Any idea if they were related?

          1. re: wincountrygirl

I lived in that neighborhood in the late 1970's and I do indeed remember Jade Gardens, I am sure there is no relation. What I miss from those days are the great delis (there were two on the same block), and Sheffs bakery.

        2. Very strange...I passed by last week and the restaurant appeared to be closed signage on the front door gone. Today they were open for business.

Chinese restaurants never go out of business. They just change ownership and put up new signage "GRAND OPENING!"

              1. re: pabboy

I'm aware that is often the case. There is no new/grand opening signage, same people. I was referring to the following "In an email this morning from the Greenburgh Town supervisor, Jade Garden, at 156 Central Avenue will be remodeled by a new lessee and converted into a sports bar. The work should commence shortly."

We gave it a shot yesterday. They were open and serving. If they close soon, I was at least able to have one last order of their turnip cakes.

It's funny...I drive by Jade Garden all the time, and ever since this announcement, they seem much busier.

So they are still slated to close? I am confused, it really looked as if they were closed and that renovations had started a couple of weeks ago and then yesterday they were back in business.

                    1. re: chowdom

I'm confused as well. We didn't address the topic with them. We were just pleased they were still serving.

                          dumpster out front this week.

Windows have been covered up. Tables and chairs removed.

                2. Thank you for the update jwg and Pabboy.
