savannah lunch restaurants

I'll be in Savannah for a few days with 3 co-workers. We'll be staying in Historic District and would rather walk than get the car out of the garage.

Can someone suggest a few nice places for lunch (we'll be in meetings later - so lunch will be our main meal). We all love seafood, but it's not imperative.

I've been looking online and can't seem to find much that don't seem like touristy places with not very good food. ie: Seafood Factory, etc.

Thanks Liz

  1. You might want to post more about what you mean by "nice". Do you mean white table cloth? Or does it include simpler places with good food?

Some simpler places include Mrs. Wilkes, Firefly Cafe, Clary's Cafe, Zunzi's (takeout in one of Savannah's beautiful squares if the weather is nice).

      Thanks for suggestions.

Ambiance doesn't matter .Fancy or plain. Just good ,fresh, food. And, especially fresh fish or seafood.
At the various sites I've been searching, even in Savannah, fish seems to be either tilapia or catfish and some salmon. 2 of us including me won't eat catfish or tilapia and salmon only when it is wild caught. Since it will be our main meal, was hoping to find something other than salads or sandwiches.

    2. SoHo South is a really fun, funky space with good salads and sandwiches.

      1. I enjoy getting take out from Papillote and taking it to one of the squares, like carolinadawg suggested.

Vic's on the River is nice too:

Be aware that the places that focus on local stuff will have fresh fish specials that might not be on their online menu. Shrimp season won't start until late May-early June and we're at the end of oyster season now.

        1. I like Crystal beer parlor. Firefly is good too
