we had read the review of the old place last week in the Sun Sentinal and decided to take a chance with our visiting family rather then undertake the usual trek from Boca to Silver Pond....we were very pleased that we skipped the ride.Old Place is not trendy,it's not hip, and, thank heavens,it's not some silly fusion of unrelated asian areas....what it is now,and hopefully remains is a solid Chinese restaurant, featuring Hunan and Szechuan food but not in some overwhelmingly authentic style that wouldn't stand a chance in this area. The spicy items are pretty spicy and can be adjusted up or down .We had the jumbo chili shrimp..the shrimp were large, firm and tasty the sauce was spicy in a nice way and a bit of sweetness...beef with peapods and mushrooms were much better then the usual tastless mess we've had in almost every place in a 10 mile radius. The Moo Shu pork and yang chow fried rice were also way above average.
prices are about what you'd expect...about $13 for the average entree and well worth it. Assuming they can maintain this quality this will be our destinationof choice when we feel like a close to home Chinese dinner ....and a cinch for Christmas eve or day.
