Point loma sandwich shop?

I am going back to San Diego for the first time in years and am wondering if this amazing sandwich shop is still around. It was in point loma near the sub base. We used to call it the Brown Bag, though I don't know if that was it's name. It was run by a family. They baked the bread fresh each day. Turkey, bacon advocado was my favorite. I can't find any indication it is still around.

  1. There is a sandwich shop called the Gourmet Bagger in a shopping center on Midway. I don't know if that is the one you are thinking of and I don't know if it is the same owners.

    1. Still there. Squeezed in the corner between a tackle shop and a military tailor shop at 1912 Rosecrans Street. They still bake their rolls every day. They seem to enjoy a niche market with customers who like quantity at a very reasonable price and OK quality.

      1. P.S. Should have noted that its name is "The Brown Bag Deli".

        1. Pearson's at the fuel dock in Shelter Island has awesome sandwiches..
Con Pane is one of the closest to the sub base..still there but in Liberty Station and awesome!

Love the summer concerts there, and the Mai Tais, but too many years of the same acts returning, and for me no one new or worth going to again. Bummer. Which ones are you going to?

I like how Brown Bag's website says they're on "Rosencrans Street."

I think I know that place on Rosencrans Street...Is'nt it the place run by the Gildensterns, right off of Shakesphere Street? :) .

                1. re: nileg

Actually I think it's between Shakespeare and Stoppard street. Not really an exact cross street.

Is that the place with a warthog and meerkat on the logo?

While we are on the subject of awesome sandwiches on Shelter Island, Stars & Stripes deli has great sandwiches. It was my goto place for crew food when I had my boat at Shelter Island.

On Shelter Island Drive in the same center as The Wine Pub

              3. Thanks everyone. The Brown Bag on Rosecrans is definitely the place. I will be checking it out this week. It has sentimental connection for me because that was where I took my wife on our first date (some date, eh?). I was poor. We took the sandwiches up to Sunset Cliffs and ate them. That was 24 years ago. Hard to believe that shop is still there.
