Puerto Rican Cookbook Suggestions

I will be doing a house swap in the Southwest portion of Puerto Rico next month. The kitchen has a five-burner gas stove and the house will be filled with people who love to cook.

Web searches indicate that there is a daily market one town over and the descriptions include '9 kinds of bananas, 13 mango varieties, fish, etc.' Needless to say, I would love to cook with new and local ingredients during our stay.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a Puerto Rican cookbook that hasn't been adapted for mainland ingredients? And is in English?

Please next time try Homestyle Puerto Rican Cooking. The ingredients are easy to find and the instructions are easy to follow.

Aha! Look what I found.... originally in Spanish and then translated into English. I think this book plus Daisy Cooks will do nicely for this trip.

This was one book that I had identified as well. Just wasn't sure if she had modified her recipes for mainland foods. I always loved her shows on CREATE.

I wish I spoke enough Spanish so I could ask the vendors for their favorite ways of cooking foods that we buy from them, but sadly, I don't.
