Puffin in NYC??
Hello! My husband and I just got back from an awesome trip to Reykjavik where we had some great meals- including puffin. I know it's a long shot- but does anyone know of a restaurant in NYC that serves it, or maybe an import store where we can purchase it?
Daisy I'm not exactly sure Puffins are legal to eat in the US (at least I hope not), they are my very favorite sea bird (but not to eat) If it helps I have seen puffin at the Bronx and Central Park Zoo's. PS You are also posting on the wrong board, you want the Manhattan board.
Puffins are a protected species in the US, as are all migratory birds under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It is even illegal to film them for commercial purposes except for wildlife conservation education.
"Migratory birds (for a complete list, refer to 50 Code of Federal
Regulation (CFR) Part 10) are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act
(MBTA). All native species of birds, with the exception of upland game
species (chukar, pheasant, quail, grouse), introduced species (starlings,
house or "english" sparrows, and feral pigeons) are protected by the MBTA.
Migratory birds, their parts, nests or eggs may not be possessed,
transported, imported, exported, purchased, sold, bartered, or offered for
purchase, sale or barter without appropriate permits. "
