Good restaurant in Toronto

I need some advice on choosing a Toronto restaurant to take my ex-boss from Montreal. He's used to a very high standard in his home town, and I don't have a clue where to take him as my wife and I pretty much gave up on eating out in Toronto years ago. I'd like to take him somewhere reasonably central (meaning the old City of Toronto) with a good buzz and really good food, avoiding the usual Bay Street business restaurants like Canoe and North 44. It would be nice to take him to a neighbourhood outside his usual King and Bay experience. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

C5 has not been serving dinner for months now.. just lunch...

I would suggest one of the newer places in the west end as they have a very different feel then the old Toronto restaurants... Woodlot, Campagnolo, Ursa etc.. If you want to go "safe" then I would suggest Note Benne... as it is on the edge of Queen West but still more of a business cliental...
