Eating at the bar - downtown area

Will be staying at the Marriot Residence Inn Downtown/Gaslamp area and am currently researching restaurants. However, would particularly like any recommendations for restaurants that have a nice bar area where one could dine while sitting at the bar. We frequently make dinner out of a couple of appetizers so sitting at the bar seems appropriate. Would prefer a location that is not too loud and probably not Asian cuisine; price is not an issue. We will not have a car but will use taxis or the trolley, although would prefer to walk. Any suggestons?

I see Urban Solace mentioned frequently but no one recommended it for eating at the bar. Any particular reason? Like not a nice bar or location.

I think Urban Solace is fine for eating at the bar, but it's not downtown. It's not accessible by trolley, but you can taxi over. I suggest mapping it first so you can decide if it's worth the coin.

Dobsons has the best mussel bisque en croute evah...good burgers too.
The oyster bar at the Fish Market rocks..sushi too..outside bayfront patio with drinks and shrimp cocktails as the boats go by.

I'd second Cowboy Star and add Searsucker (can be loud depending on the night), Bice (esp. the cheese bar), Roy's (to be outside on a nice night), Fish Market (ditto), Neighborhood (esp. if you like beer), Lion's Den (esp. if you like cocktails) and Quality Social (bar that has some good food). Expanding your area to include Little Italy, Bencotto, Underbelly (ramen), PrepKitchen and Craft & Commerce will all fit the bill (the later three can all be loud depending on the night). Also nearby, Bankers Hill has Bankers Hill and Cucina Urbana. All of these have been reviewed here and elsewhere.
