I will defer to the locals, but on a recent visit we very much enjoyed both Nine-Ten and Georges Ocean Terrace.

Thank you all for your ideas. We ended up with only one night and we went to Nine-Ten and it was fabulous. Grea,t attentive, friendly service. Outstanding fish (halibut). Fresh, fresh salad. Amazing dessert.

      Chowhounders rock!

Nine-Ten - The hamachi is amazing. The soup is always good. They also usually have outstanding specials. I had a delicious salmon dish last week. My husband had the duck and loved it!
Zenbu - Wonderful ambiance and great sushi.

George's Bar. Hands down. For lunch or dinner. Nothing finer in La Jolla, for combination of view, food, experience. I prefer lunch because it's open-air at that time.

Today I went to George's. The food was good (I had George's "famous soup" and fish tacos), but I have to say that the overall experience was just so-so. Whereas Prep Kitchen felt cozy and welcoming, George's felt a little too trendy and crowded for my taste.

Modern or Ocean Terrace? I hope you at least enjoyed the view!

Truluck's, Roy''s, Donovan's, A.R. Valentien depending on your budget. In the village, Prep Kitchen, Nine-Ten, La Valencia.

I went to Prep Kitchen tonight (based on the rec's here) and it was fabulous. I had the PK Brick Chicken (celery root puree; pancetta; brussel sprouts). It was fantastic. And the wait staff were great. I was happy to be in a place a little more out of the way than George's...
