Potato Chip Slicer Microwave Mandolin

Anyone try this gadet yet? They cost about twenty bucks. You slice very thin with the mandolin (which I might have spelled wrong but I'm tired) then you microwave on the special tray provided in the kit. I tried a sample and it was fabulous.

For calorie reasons, you can allegedly use things other than potatoes. What can you use? Anyone try this?

Though I have heard of it I haven't tried it but do my own chips in the oven that are extremely thinly sliced on my mandoline. My favourites include carrots, sweet potatoes, beets and butternut squash chips. I'm sure you could do parsnip and turnip if you wanted to.

Al, no, the one I'm eyeballing is different but same concept.

Chef, do you slice those carrots on an angle? Otherwise, they'd be tiny chips. Any tips for beets and butternut squash?

I'm looking for alternatives to potato, because I'm a real hog with potatoes (love 'em too much) and trying to keep trim.

      You mean this one?

I have this one. The slicer really does slice thin and the rack does crisp the up nicely. It's a bit of a pain it line up all those thin slices in the rack, but the results aren't bad. Doing enough for a crowd (or even a couple of people) will take a bit of time, tho.
