Tell me what to expect at the Belmont Tavern in Bellville and is the Chicken Savory really that good?

Funny thing, I logged into Chowhund and Belmon Tavern was the first item on the list. It has been on my bucket list for quite some time. I've lived in the area for all my life (65 years) and have never been there. I am going with family (at my request) to celebrate a special event for me. We are going tonight. I am looking to try the shrimp beeps and the cavetelli and pot cheese. Since my daughter has been there many times, she has suggested we have an alternate plan, just in case the folks at the Belmont "are in a mood". So Plan B is Luigi's, which is a few doors past the Belmont.

Don't go out of your way, but if you're locked in, enjoy the "atmosphere" and food that will satisfy but certainly not wow...

And if you get the house red wine, ask for it cold. It's slightly less horrible that way.

nothing is really that good but i still think you should enjoy it. chicken savoy and chicken murphy, ask for it with potatoes, pasta with pot cheese, it's all good but you are not going just for the food. it will be a memorable experience.

It's one of those places that you have to try. The chicken savoy is the best around. However, other items can be inconsistent.
