A Hunger Games Party!

Stelmaria Mar 25, 2012 08:42 PM

So my geeky friends and I have been tossing around the idea of having a Hunger Games inspired dinner/cocktail/movie night.

Since the books are filled with descriptions of food and meals, we think it'll be fun. Some definite ideas:

- Bread with nuts and raisins (the bread Peeta throws to Katniss when they're twelve)
- Basil leaves with goat cheese (what Prim makes for Katniss on the Reaping day)
- Lamb stew with rice (Katniss's favorite!)

Doesn't District 11 send Katniss a croissant which is typical of their district in appreciation of honoring Rue?

Or how about Katniss and Peeta's first meal on the train: "The supper comes in courses. A thick carrot soup, green salad, lamb chops and mashed potatoes, cheese and fruit, a chocolate cake." Or. . . ."Greasy Sae’s concoction of mice meat, pig entrails, and tree bark—a winter specialty"

To be really authentic, make each guest forage for their own food. Or a soggy loaf of bread with nuts and raisins. In the movie there were tons of small cakes and desserts.

There are quite a few possibilities.

Stumbled upon this blog tonight. Great ideas: http://yummy-books.com/. You'll have to go far down the blog to No. 6 for her Hunger Game ideas.

I just keep thinking that judging by her movie roles, Jennifer Lawrence must look to casting directors like a girl who could eat a squirrel. (She was brilliant in both movies I've seen her in, so I'm guessing that looking-like-a-girl-who-could-eat-a-squirrel is a pretty good casting criterion). Don't serve squirrel, though, at least if I'm invited. I would make a dandelion salad, serve goat cheese wrapped in basil, and probably the lamb stew over rice. For dessert you could go shiver in the yard and suck on mint leaves.
