Good eats near Tom's River NJ

We will be in Tom's River, NJ next week end. Where are good places for breakfast and dinner? We like diners all the way to 4 star restaurants, and all cuisines. Thanks much. Jazzfan

I've never been to Buccios or Serenity Cafe, but otherwise, Tapas, you've put forth my Toms River highlight reel. For breakfast, I would add the bagel place by Silver Bay Road (in a strip mall on the eastbound side of Hooper)*, or heading into Bay Head for a crumb bun at Mueller's. http://www.muellersbakery.com/

*Ahh, thank you web for trumping the effects of age and last night's alcohol on my memory. The place is called Bay Side Bagels. Very Good stuff. Try the egg everything. http://baysidebagelnj.sdlittle.com/ba...

I cannot recommend Nobi. After reading so many "glowing" reports here, tried it one afternoon for lunch. It stands out as the Worst meal ever! The sushi was gluey and my Ebi "special" sushi was horrible, the head arrived burnt in rancid oil. The rest of the food was tasteless and poorly presented, it was slow and the service was pure "I don't care." My Mother who was with me, also found it very bad.

If you venture into Brick, there is WindMill, which has good "ripper" hot dogs and an excellent Mongolian grill :P J Lee's Original Mongolian Barbeque, Kohls Shopping Ctr. Brick Township, NJ 08723 Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PEFpo...

We have been there so many times never had a bad meal at Nobi , we also enjoy Shogun & Hanna....but all three are not as good as KAZU in Howell on Rt 9.. ... also I don't think Windmill has "RIPPER" hot dogs?...although very good are deep fried......they grill their dogs unless I'm mistaken?...I go there all the time...ripper dogs are like Rutts Hutt style in Clifton....
          what am I missing?...

          1. re: Tapas52

As someone who grew up in the Family business of a Stewart's Root Beer, where we deep fried our dogs, I have a clear idea about it. I have cooked and served more hot dogs than most 3 people who like hot dogs, eat in a lifetime. YMMV.

I favor Pan Asia in Forked River for good sushi. But I am not about to "vet" my sushi chops here.

Tapas - Thanks for recommending Buccio's. I tried it for lunch today and enjoyed a nice cup of homemade chicken orzo soup as well as their Mediterranean salad with grilled chicken. Everything was fresh and well made.

bgut1 ....glad you enjoyed it ...it's a refreshing new place ..
we need all we can get here in TR.....we also enjoy dinner next door at Shianos also.....

              take care

        2. I like Serenity Cafe (French-influenced I think) and Il Giardinello for Italian. Other than that, there aren't any other restaurants I'd recommend around here as something that you should go out of your way to try.

Il Giardinello, old school but still kicking it. Best fried calamari I have ever eaten in my life, hands down. Also love Ja Rock for Jamaican. The jerk chicken is excellent-get the dark meat! They have a side of spinach and onions that was deelish. It is a tiny place that I can't believe is still in business because it is always empty. Shame because the food is great. Don't be afraid to try Jamaican food, it is spiced but not spicy hot!

Ja Rock does a good take out business also as I talk to many Nursing & hospital facility workers who are from the islands and just love their food....makes them feel at home. their Jerk Pork is delicious...I agree be adventurous try new tings all the time....life is too short .. :-)
