Ipoh, Malaysia - Delicious Pork-filled Glutinous Rice Dumplings from Guan Kee
Guan Kee has got to have one of the best rice dumplings (肉粽) in Ipoh, if not in Malaysia.
Wrapped in palm leaves then steamed, one would unwrap one of those dumplings to reveal moist, tasty glutinous rice encasing a delicious filling which consisted of salted duck-egg yolk, mushroom, stewed pork belly, dried shrimps and chestnut.
It's got the perfect texture and perfect balance of flavors. The price has gone up in the past few years, and their dumplings now cost RM5.20 each.

We started off with Xin Quan Fang curry noode spot since it entailed that long, nightmarish wait and they'd sell out by mid-morning. Then, we basically followed a convenient next-nearest-spot route.
Confession: We originally also wanted to have a meal at Yee Fatt aka MGS (Methodist Girls School) curry noodles at Jalan Kampar - they served thick chicken curry, siu-yuk, char-siu and shredded chicken atop noodles. But we were too full before we got there! Oh well, always a next time :-)
Well, there were 4 of us, though the two ladies in our party turned out to be pretty "useless" (low-carb diet, "not-too-sweet", "I don't like oily food"). That's what happen when I get office colleagues who're interested to go on an Ipoh road-trip with me, but turned out to be not so interested in food :-(
I'm getting *other* makan kakis when I do Malacca this weekend >:-(
