'Healthy Indian' food in sf valley or westside?

alohaanna Mar 24, 2012 06:03 PM

I LOVE Indian food, but most Indian restaurants seem to douse every dish in ghee or cream based sauces. Is there anywhere that serves the incredible flavors of India without all the fat?
We live in the foothills of the SF Valley, but also spend a lot of time on the Westside. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Right now, our local standby has been the Salomi on Lankershim for their chicken dhansak.

You might try Dhaba on Main in Santa Monica.

generally Samosa House will offer some menu items that are ghee-free to accommodate their vegan customers.

I realize it's completely inauthentic, but we like Electric Karma on 3rd Street near Crescent Heights. I've only ever had delivery, so I can't speak to the dining-in experience.

Woodland (Pure), for vegetarian Indian. On Topanga a couple of blocks south of Devonshire. Good spicing. Delicate yet hearty dosas...

thanks! I will give it a try. I am amazed that in LA, which is such a foodie town, no one has tried updating and freshening up Indian a bit more.
