Any peanut doughnuts to be found in Tampa Bay area?
I'm having no luck finding peanut doughnuts (cake doughnut covered in glaze then rolled in crushed/chopped peanuts) in Tampa.
I've tried the grocery stores and a few independent doughnut shops. When I ask the staff at the counters, they act as if they never heard of such a thing.
At first, I thought it was because of the growing peanut allergy among kids, but I still see doughnuts with nuts sprinkled on the top, so I'm not sure if that's the answer.
Maybe it's a regional thing?
I can still find them when I go up to western New York a few times a year--Wegmans has the best-but that's a long way to go for a doughnut.

I believe Fray's has peanut donuts, but if I'm not mistaken, theirs is a chocolate cake donut dipped in peanuts. You may want to call them to confirm. I usually go to the 66th St. location, 4419 66th St N, Kenneth City, FL (727) 544-3688, which makes very good, fresh donuts. I also grew up in Western New York State, and you are right, the peanut donut is a mainstay up there. Fray's has multiple locations in St Pete and Pinellas Park.

Wegmans! The best grocery store in the country. I remember Jet Donuts in Kenmore always had them. There are some doughnut shops that will make them special order. Some Dunkin Donuts will (I think there is one on SR54). We just called one in downtown Tampa called The Hot Donut Co, I think. They'll make them for the same price as their assorted dozen. Just not this week (the week of the RNC) Nicola charges way too much to special order. .
