need help folks. i'll be spending a week on what is almost an island in Machiasport Maine in mid-July. i've never been to Maine, much less to this seemingly remote area. i'll take any suggestions and recommendations in the Down East/Acadia region, with emphasis on where to get the best Maine seafood and a good beer. i would also welcome thoughts on stuff to maybe check out on the way back to Boston on Rt 1.

    1. still looking for anything between Bar Harbor and Machias. SPECIFICALLY unpretentious places. i don't want to dress up and i don't want my food served with a side of derision.

Chester Pike's Galley, Sullivan; Fisherman's Wife Cafe, Vasquez Mexican Food, and 44 Degrees North, Milbridge; Kitchen Garden, Steuben--need rez 24 hours in advance/BYOB; Bohemian Mama's, Addison; Blue Bird and Helen's, Machias.

For some of the best and most reasonably priced lobster rolls, Tracy's in Sullivan. It's a roadside stand, so definitely not pretentious. If you want alcohol, BYOB.
