Bar seating/reservation question

Are reservations necessary for bar seating in Paris bistros. I have reservations at a number of restaurants but was recently looking at a photo of Les Papilles (one of the places I have reserved) and noticed the bar seats. Are those seats used on the reservation system? I prefer to sit at the bar and was wondering what the general policy in Paris is for bar seating.
