Shangri-la wedding receoption Review?
I'm planning a wedding this year and considering booking the Shangri-la Banquet hall and convention hall in Markham, near Steeles and Woodbine.
Can anyone please provide a review of the food and the overall venue? Specifically for Chinese weddings?
Altogether over the years I've probably been to about 4 weddings or so there. Chinese courses are not too bad overall.
I also went to a wedding where they had one large plate of "Western-style" food at the end and that was terrible. Dry steak, random grilled veg...it was not good and was just a mish-mash of things.
Do keep in mind if there are multiple weddings on the same day at the same time as yours. The few times I have been to Shangri-La, the weddings are all placed in close proximity to each other, so if one party's music (or karaoke) is too loud, y'all will hear it. Also increases the possibility of party-crashers also!
Overall, I would suggest Mandarin Golf and Country Club in Markham over the Shangri-La. Been to a few weddings there as well and the food was much better, both Chinese and Western food.
I was there for a Chinese wedding last summer. Pretty decent venue, it's an open space so I imagine you can decorate it as you please. Food was very good, my only complaint was that because they dished out each course on little plates for each guest, the dinner was really really long (around 3 hours I think). Obviously service is a bit slower because of the volume, but it was stretched out so long that I was stuffed by the third or fourth course and didn't enjoy the later courses as much.
