ISO buns for Ippudo style pork buns
Anyone know where I can find premade buns for pork buns in the ippudo/momofuko style? Struck out at Mings

Hmart sells them. I believe frozen packs of 20. They are made in Brooklyn, vaguely offensive old school "generic Asian person" drawing. Might be called Chef Changs or Uncle Changs. The instructions must be a poor translation as it called for steaming for a number of minutes, but they only took 30 seconds or so in a bamboo basket steamer at my house.

LOL. Don't know why that cracks me up.
Most Chinese markets will carry several varieties of mantou, so it would be really unusual to be completely out. Mantou come in a variety of sizes and shapes though, so if you're not picky about having a specific look to your "bao", you should be able to find mantou in the fridge. They even have whole wheat ones now that I enjoy much more than the regular white steamed buns. I also like the ones with swirls of scallion steamed in.

Mantou is another English spelling you might see in the freezer case.
They're not hard to make if you have the baking skills / patience to make a simple white-bread dough and own a steamer.

re: keith
I think your spelling approximates the proper pronunciation better!

That's strange. Pretty sure that I've seen them at Ming's before (they are typically frozen and called Mantoh). I think they also had them at C-Mart last time I was there. Alternative would be to get fresh ones at one of the Chinatown bakeries, but I'm not sure how well they reheat.
