Best breakfast joint?

What are some of your favourite breakfast spots in Vancouver? Mine is probably Moodyville's at 1st and Lonsdale in North Van (close to the Quay). It's an all day place but it closes at around 2 or 3.

  1. It seems the few times I have gone out for breakfast lately it's been mediocre at best. But, last weekend I finally had a great breakfast at Abigail's Party in Kits. The only drawbacks were the bad, loud music they were playing, and the three screaming kids. The food was great though.

    1. My current pick is Red Wagon for any variation of the pork belly (sorry Sam Salmon) and their excellent almost savoury pancakes. I've never lined up here, not a line up person. Just go in offish hours.

If you like Moodyville's you might like the Argo, which serves brekky weekdays only before 11. I have a long list of places like these in the Lower Mainland that I am slowly working my way through but they seem to be slowly disappearing.

I'm a sucker for a good benny. I'll have to try Red Wagon's. Moodyville's does a really good one; it's worth dealing with the grumpy girl behind the counter for.

I haven't found a really awesome benny in Vancouver yet so would love to hear what you think of the one at RW (which I also haven't tried as I just can't not order the pork belly!).

      2. I've temporarily gave up on Jethro's Fine Grub on Dunbar due to long weekend morning lines. But if they're as good as here:

        I'll keep tryin' ..........

        1. I know it crops up frequently on these pages, but my current favorite is Little Nest off commercial drive. I recommend it to all except folks who don't like kids, as there are always several dozen tikes in attendance.

I'll have to check it out. Do you like Theresa's, also on The Drive?

            1. re: lando_zeus

I haven't been to Theresa's since the fire they had a while back. The did a serviceable diner style breakfast, but one had to make sure not to sit near the washroom as the HVAC was somewhat lacking. Perhaps that's been taken care of now that they've rebuilt?

For me, the only other option commercial drive besides Little Nest, is Bandidas. It's a great spot for a healthy and tasty meal, morning or night.

          2. I'll second Red Wagon. Loved the pork belly confit. The hash, Lyonnaise style, at Flying Pig is v good but outshines their other brunch offerings. Cafe Regalade is a new fave.

            1. The Red Wagon does seem very popular lately but I have noticed it tends to be quite busy since all the press it has received recently. I really like Cafe Zen on Yew in Kits. Great food and a nice atmosphere!

              1. The Red Wagon is near my place, and it's usually quite busy. I think the food is decent, but I don't go often because I don't like heavy food first thing in the morning. The pulled pork pancakes are awesome but I need a nap after...

My wife loves Cafe Medina for breakfast. We usually get a waffle and share something else, the food is delicious and not too filling. It's quite busy though so we usually show up before it opens, easier to find parking earlier as well.
