Opal Apples at Berkeley Bowl West

These had one of the Bowl's "Good Eating!" signs I've learned to heed, and indeed, they're tasty, particularly given that it's so far out of season. Reportedly a cross between Golden Delicious and Topaz (which I've never heard of), they taste like a very ripe Golden but tart and more complex. They're juicy and have a firm, crunchy texture. Conventional, Washington state.

  1. I've heard that they're available the Moraga Safeway - anybody know if there's any place on the Peninsula that carries them?
