Amalfi Coast - Special dinner

I will be on the Amalfi Coast (Praiano is our base) for my birthday end May and would like to celebrate it by having an exceptional dinner.

Is Don Alfonso the place to go to or is it over-rated?

Any other not-to-be-missed places welcome too!

A few more details...

We'll be travelling by pubic transport but are happy to get in a taxi for evening meals.Will be exploring the region during the day so likely to be going to the main villages (Positano, Amalfi, Ravello)
We're after the most amazing food experiences, whether it is in a starred restaurant, or a small simple trattoria.
No limitations on budget (at least for a few nights!)

there are a number of possibilities in the area in addition to Don Alfonso. One thing to consider is how you are travelling - if its a dinner, its a 10 mi drive on challenging roads - in order to have a relaxing and safe experience you may want to hire a car to go to this - or any other - location that is not near your base..

the whole area is a special setting and provider of splendid romantic views, etc. so you dont necessarily need to visit the most luxe restaurant to be transported. The food is basically simple seafood specialties , although some of the restaurants have meat specialties, vegetables and cheeses are also wonderful in this area. so it comes down in the end to what your priorites are for the special evening.to whether the most delicious food is a consideration and how much you want to spend. With more info I am sure you will receive recommendations.
