The Georgetown Saloon in CT calls it quits

Very sudden, no warning, just closed its doors today.

Not really a surprise considering its bankruptcy filing last year. But the owner swore she would pull things together and it wouldn't close. Well...

  1. I was having breakfast at the Olive Market this morning and heard this, too. I at least, was a little surprised, as they always seemed to a decent business, but maybe it wasn't as good as it appeared, or they weren't controlling the expenditures well.

The times I went there in the past few years for lunch it was empty. Food was terrible. The new owner never really hired a decent chef and it showed. Gosh, I've been going there for about 25 years. Back in the day it was a good spot. I've heard a local restaurateur might be taking over. I hope so.

    2. Really not a surprise at all. The food was mediocre and overpriced - Lumberyard, literally around the corner, has comparable food but is cheaper. Little Pub, up the road, is in the same price range but with much better food.

I hope the space doesn't stay vacant long. We live nearby (less than a mile away) and are in Georgetown almost daily. I would do anything for a breakfast/brunch spot!

      1. Update story on the closing of the Georgetown Saloon provides a little more color about a place that was once very very popular. Let's hope a new owner comes along and restores some of that.

        1. It's a sad day... We used to go to the Saloon for the Sunday night (family night) entertainment and dinner with the kids. But, honestly, we stopped several years ago, when the food quality went down and the prices went up. It just wasn't what it used to be.

Georgetown is getting tougher and tougher. Let's hope the new "Spanish Bistro" opening next to Toozy Patza turns out to be a decent option....and fingers crossed for someone to take over the Saloon space and give us back a great place for a fun evening out.

The "South American Bistro" Olive Market has been there for years- Tutto Pasta rents space from them

I believe hungry kids is talking about Tootzy Pasta on Rt. 7, not Georgetown.

                Thanks for the clarification.

Yes - exactly. Toozy Patza is opening a bistro featuring Spanish-influenced cuisine in the space most recently occupied by Cafe Cogolulu.

The former Gilbert & Bennett space was supposed to revitalize the area when it was developed. That was stalled and hasn't happened. The area is in limbo right now.

The G&B construction is actually starting soon. The Georgetown businesses received official notice last week that demolition is about to begin. They got the permits and everything.

Will believe it when I see it. So many issues along the way. Hope this time it happens.

I lived in Weston for 10 years, and loved the Gtown Saloon. Sad to see the passing in this iteration. Hope it is reanimated with the same soul in the future.
