Best restaurant in Charleston...Tristan

Just got back from Charleston and ate in what I thought was one of the best restaurants in Charleston. Everything we had was delicious. Some examples:
She Crab Raviolo...Lumpcrab,sweet onionpuree, sherry, celery leaf emulsion appetizer
Scrambled & seared New England scallops, leeks, fingerling potatoes, crispy pepperoni...main course
Sounds like there are too many ingredients. Not so.

Room is lovely. Service excellent. Not cheap, but worth it.

Best part... we were staying at the French Quarter Inn which was also great . Tristan is in the inn.

I love it too. Did you do that wine dinner?

We went during restaurant week. It was nice that their courses were accompanied by different wines. None of the other restaurants did that. Those little extras between courses were special.

It is a beautiful space and the service was thoughtful.

We ate a la carte. It was not restaurant week.
I see you live in Mt. Pleasant. We have gone to a "restaurant" there called The Wreck. We really enjoyed it, but were too tired to drive there. It used to be open for lunch. In fact, the owner made lunch for us when we arrived 10 minutes before it closed. That was probably in1996.

Was at The Wreck just last night on a daytrip down from Charlotte - had a wonderful plate of local (yes, LOCAL) shrimp and oysters. It remains a perfectly executed fried seafood plate, and what takes it over the top is the delightful pairing of red rice, a crispy slaw (with some green bell peppers thrown in for good measure), a spot-on hushpuppy and a fried hominy square. See attached photo. Chatted with the owner when I was paying my bill and had a cool conversation about local seafood. Still a great place.

Wow. After a weekend stomach bug, I'm hungry again. Thanks mikeh.

The Wreck doesn't get much love sometimes. I'm glad you had a good experience and posted that excellent picture!

I'm jealous. If its the same owner you must have enjoyed yourselves. I have a picture of him from 1998

I don't think it's changed hands. I'da heard about it. lenore, you should go next time you come.

I know Tristan has a regular wime dinner that I'm going to go back and try. Rest. Week was in January. You may want to come down then!

It's a long way for us to come just to eat. I live in Ny and we drove down, so we don't come that often. There are restaurant weeks in NYC in June and January. I go quite often because it's the only way to afford some of the restaurants. Of course you don't get the choice you normally would. There ere usually only 3 entrees from which to choose; but you do get a taste of some great food.
