El Gran Taco Loco [San Francisco] - La Lengua Chronicles Part 6
Date dined: 3/17/12
Stopped by El Gran Taco Loco today, and ordered three tacos - two tacos al pastor, and one chicken taco. Both types of taco were quite respectable - generous portion of meat, topped with onion, cilantro and mildly spicy red salsa. The al pastor didn't appear to come from a spit like it does at other places (such as Taqueria San Jose, which is my top spot in SF for this), and actually tasted more like grilled pork. The chicken was nice and moist, and cut up in small bits, much like the pork.
The salsa bar included several options, including a chunkier-than-usual version of green salsa which was great with chips. I also tried an agua fresca de melon (cantaloupe) and this was refreshing and not overly sweet. My dining companion enjoyed carne asada tacos, which looked great (same toppings as the tacos I tried), and a strawberry agua fresca, which was apparently a bit on the sweet side. But items on other tables looked even better, so I think there's lots more to explore here: tostada w/ ceviche, huaraches and sopes, pozole, etc. I also want to try the chicken soup, which srr recommended here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/838611 - so hopefully I'll return sometime soon.
