hubby birthday dinner on a monday!
Hi all,
I m new to the area and looking for a nice, chic place to go for my hubby's birthday.
it s on a monday, so meritage will be closed.
I m thinking nicollet island inn, but not sure.
I d love some place with a background music, nice seating, and that would give us an excuse to dress up...
thanks a lot!

hey welcome!
nic island inn is not a place that jumps to mind when you say "chic"-- it's more... "classic." um, a very nice place for a 25th wedding anniversary? i don't know if hip young things such as you and hubby would *love* the place, although a drink at the historic bar and a carriage ride around the riverfront area of st. anthony main would be very romantic.
the above recs are great. another place to look at for a monday night would be bar la grassa-- it's downright rowdy on weekend evenings, but you can have a lovely, quieter time on a monday evening, with great food and service. hope you have a great time, be sure to let us know where you went and how you liked it!

Thank you all..didnt expect such fast replies.
So I guess Cafe Lurcat it will be..from what you advised.
Soupkitten, I would be interested by what you said about the carriage ride, especially with this nice weather..would it be interesting to have dinner there after? or maybe leave it for our first anniversary?
Thank you all again :)-

you know, i've liked nic island inn over the years, but i haven't been there since chef erick harcey left the inn to open victory 44 several years ago. nicollet island inn is a little old fashioned but it can have some great food. it's a little expensive for what it is, in my opinion, though-- but service is top notch and there is the lovely, historic ambiance to consider. it just depends on what folks like for cuisine and overall experience. i would check out the menu and see what you think... it has a brunch menu too!
the carriage rides go on all day i believe... the carriage drivers are independent contractors, like cab drivers, but their route is around the immediate riverfront area and they pick up and drop off at the inn, so if you have questions about the carriages (i've never done it, and have no idea what it costs), i would suggest you call the booking staff for nicollet island inn, i bet they have all the info. i think it would be a fun thing to do for a special occasion-- i've even seen the carriages working around the winter holidays, with the passengers all bundled up under blankets :)
have a great time no matter what you decide to do!
