<content>Count me in! I'd like to try a Sacto Chowhound get-together. After living here for almost a year I still don't feel like I know very many chowish places.

One of my three favorite restaurants is a small Korean restaurant with excellent spicy hotpot soups at Folsom and Bradshaw. That would be my vote for a Chowhound get-together location. (My other favorites are Waterboy and Tapa the World, both of which everyone has probably already tried.) Of course I am _very_ open to other votes/suggestions. I always like to try new restaurants!

<content>Sunday's are good for me for now. Its kind of hot out for spicy food, but if the place has a good air conditioner, should be ok! This kind of weather puts me in a barbeque mood. Any ideas on BBQ places? I know of one in Antelope that was really good and wouldn't mind going again.</content>

<content>I'm game. However, Sundays are tough since so many places just aren't open. Let's stick with chowhound places, though. No 'foodie', dress-up places like Waterboy or Tapas The World. Hoa Viet on Broadway is always open as is Lai Wah on Freeport.....or Yeung City on Freeport...or Saigon on Stockton.......new Mexican, Oh Amigo, in Camellia Shopping Center on Folsom Blvd.......great Korean with lots of non-spicy choices, Bud Namu Jip on Folsom Blvd. east of Watt Ave. Whatever - just don't make me put on panty hose!</content>

Sundays are fine here. We could do Dim Sum at Kings in West Sac - good for groups. Barbecue at Sandra Dees - good for groups. Tapa the world - good for groups and we can bring some summer roses (not flowers, but pink wine)

I personally draw the line at lipstick...</content>

<content>I've been slow because I wanted to give everyone a chance to make an opinion. To summarize:

Lisa, Korean on Folsom, Waterboy's, Tapa the World. (To bad they don't really have tapa's)

Doc, BBQ somewhere in Antelope. Likes sundays.

Karolyn, Feels sundays limit choices because places arn't open sundays. Seems to favor vietnamese. Mentions the new mexican in Camillia shopping center. Also the korean on folsom blvd. Doesn't want to wear panty hose.

Marion, will wear lipstick.

Larry, Won't wear lipstick or panty hose. (Neither will I Larry ;-) ) Likes BBQ at Sandra Dee's (where is that? Can I surf?) and/or dim sum

Me, I won't wear panty hose or lipstick. I hope we can come to some sort of consentious. Or, tell me to make a command decision. I'm not too into Mexican. We did dim sum last time so I'm into something different. If BBQ is a choice we should consider Poor Red's in Shingle Springs. About 30 miles east of Sacto on Hiway 50. Usually a bit of a wait but the Gold Cadillic's helps time fly by. I'm not so hot for Saigon just because I go there so often but I do love vietnamese. I'd like to try Thai again too. The Korean sounds good, I would expect a lot of choices including sushi but they probably won't be open on sundays.

Give me some feedback and we will make a decision. Looking forward to seeing some of you again and meeting others for the first time.

      <content>Okay,

Poor Reds, Tapas, Sushi.

Do we feel like we have a final vote here? Should we narrow the sushi selection? Nishiki-expensive. Kamon-just alright. Samurai-in my opinion the best sunday sushi, but not conducive to groups.

Let's choose three and vote!

Tapa's for Ginger and Lemon Grass Mussles and Sangria

 Sandra Dee's for BBQ
Jamie's for their smokey Prime Rib (Thursday eve.)
Dim Sum, after all, you guys turned me out to this...

<content>One thing is for sure: the Sacramento group appears to communicate a lot more than any other group and this is even though most of us haven't even met in person yet..
So, how's just about setting a time and a place and whoever can make it will be there.
As far as Jamie's is concerned, the smokey prime rib is a Thursday night special only, as far as I know.
I have never made it past this dish at this place. I did have a few drinks, which are good in size and flavor, but I was impressed with the taste and size of the prime rib, good for at least two more meals for the next few days.
I agree with Larrry, Sandra Dee's has the best BBQ ribs in town.
I remember going to a Sushi place on 19th and S Street that had sort of a neighborhoody feeling and the Sushi was pretty good there(Taka's ?)

<content>Well I vote for Sandra Dee's first and a Korean place second. Sandra Dee's is open 11-9 tue - thur, 11-10 fri and sat and 12 to 7 Sunday's. I called today and they said they have a full bar at the downtown location. They have a Florin Road location but clearly downtown is the place to go.

Date and time is another issue. I'm open for anything at this point except this friday (6-28). Please help me help us come to a consensus.

Please note that while I'm willing to help facilitate and organize this I don't believe it's 'Robert's Sacto Chowhounds' and I'm willing to take only so much heat.

By the way I'm with Ann on the picnic idea. Maybe next time

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

      <content>Okay, Here we go.

First choice:
Sandra Dee's for sunday barbecue. Rib tips, Chicken, Tri-tip, Catfish. I've been talking to the chef Pierre about downhome louisiana food, and since it is crawfish season, let me know when and I'll see if he'll make a batch of crawfish etouffee.

Second Choice:
Sushi at Sake Ya, Samurai or Takas. It is all good.

Third Choice:
Tapa the World. We could bring our own wine, and get something off the list. I'm dying to open a bottle of Beckmen Vineyards Grenache Rose. Or maybe a Tobin James Zin or a Garretson Viognier.

Boy, I'm getting hungry.

<content>From my limited explorations across the river for sushi (I live in east sac), I can only find Ankimo at Mikuni (sporadically) and Shige and Samurai (regularly). The same goes for good mirugai and aji.

The good quality fish is hard to find in sac. I usually ask first and foremost for aji and ankimo and natto. If they say they never carry them, I tend not to return for a couple of months.

Should we start an up-to-date Sacramento Sushi thread?

<content>Here's another idea (not that we're at a loss for ideas, but it's a different kind of idea, and given that we're having trouble making a decision, maybe this would work?) -- why don't we do a picnic pot luck? We could meet at a park somewhere-- maybe Land Park, or McKinley although that one gets too crowded on weekends for my tastes -- and everyone bring a side dish and someting to barbeque or whatever they wanted for a main entree. We could make it thematic -- dishes that go well with barbeque, of which there are thousands, for instance, or finger foods, or we could do an ethnic thing -- cold noodle salads, something like that. Or we could just leave it open and see what people choose to bring.

Given that we all have found our way to this site, we are probably all pretty good cooks, or at least pretty creative cooks . . . and so I'm sure that we could put together a picnic full of scrumptious eats.

In perusing through some of the other boards, I've noticed that picnics are kind of popular especially now. It would take a little organization -- I'd volunteer if I had a co-organizer.

Thoughts? </content>

<content>It looks like Marion, Debbie, Larry, Lucy and me are commited. I expect a few friends, significant others etc. also. I suggested one or two any opinions?

<content>I'll bring my SO. She flirts with chowhound zealotry, but hasn't crossed the line to obsession...

Any Idea on the date?

<content>Tomorrow would work for me. Consider me there if a consensus is met on this board. So far, it seems that Robert and I will be there.

I'll check the board and my email sunday morning to verify.

Looking forward to meeting everyone...

<content>I'll be there too. I hope Sandra Dee's is pretty informal since I'll be working on the house before I arrive and may still be sporting a paint splatter or two. :)

<content>Oh good, I won't be eating alone. I entend to be there at 1:30 (no later) and I understand it to be informal, I hope so because I will be.

I'll be wearing a maroon tee shirt, black trousers and birkinstocks. I'll have BBQ sauce on my face. :-)

      <content>Do we have a quorum?

Looks like Sandra Dee's. I think I'll be hungry this sunday, the 30th of June, but won't be so hungry on the 7th, cuz of the 4th of July weekend. (Salmon Festival in Noyo). The 21st or the 28th is perfect and I can squeeze in the 14th if we hold it later in the afternoon, 3:30pm or later.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!
