Captain Seas, 905 N. Colony Rd, Wallingford, CT

I know that this restaurant has made it on Chowhound before, but it appears the posts are rather old. I hit this place on a whim today, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The place is an old IHOP building, I think. I ordered a clam strip platter, and they were absolutely OUTSTANDING. These clams were fresh, crisp--not greasy. Fresh cole slaw--you could tell it was made that morning--and not overdressed and gloppy like so many other places. The owners are very nice and came out of the kitchen to ask me how my meal was. I'll be bringing the wife back. They also serve hummel hot dogs, paninis, and lobster rolls. While I was in there, another customer placed a very large order for quite a few lobster rolls--looks like I'll have to give that a try as well.

I've always enjoyed the food there, and if my Ex didn't live in Wallingford, I might go there more regularly. But having run into her there, I only go when I know she's oput of town.

The Captain has been a favorite of mine since my area of operation keeps me away from Glenwood. I stop by for the dogs and burgers, and while not a seafood fan, I'm told it's fresh and not on the greasy side. I always wondered what it used to be, never knew it was an ihop
