Traveling CA 99 from Bakersfield to Modesto

butrfli1227 Mar 16, 2012 09:11 AM

I'm moving to Modesto from FL next week and we will be CA 99 around dinner time. What are some good places to stop for dinner on that route?

Thanks!

I would try to time my dinner stop to allow me to hit Noriega's in Bakersfield for Basque. Of course, you'll have to allow a couple of hours for dinner (plus time for a nap, perhaps), which, if you're en route, you may not want to do.

Fresno is about half way. What are you looking for, a quick burger close to the freeway or do you want to come into town? Also, what type of food; steak, Chinese, Mexican?
Without stops, it's about a 3 1/2-4 hour drive. You might want to get the drive out of the way and enjoy a leisurely dinner in Modesto. I've been hearing good things about Dewz.

If you want a real introduction to the Great Central Valley, via the type of home-style Mexican food that I used to find in lots of places here but that now seems to be hard to find, consider La Perla Tapatia in Delano. Just a few blocks off the 99, about 30 minutes north of Bakersfield.
