You can also roll to some of the places in the Treme area like Dookie Chase and Lil DIzzy's.

You read my mind, noradeirdre. And add Willie Mae's to that list of places for fried chicken. And I'm pretty sure you'll be staying not too far from Bullet's Sports Bar in the Treme, where you can catch Kermit Ruffins at 7pm on Tuesdays.

Since it's the largest ward you may have to narrow things for us. You could be abutting ByWater and the FQ or be in the area of City Park and the good restaurants along upper Esplanade

Thanks for getting back to me. I'll be around the area of N Borad and St Bernard ave. Not sure what section that is, could be the hood? Po’boys (what’s the best kind?) and fried chicken are must try in my mind also would love a good low key place for oyster and or crawfish. That is if they are as good as the famous spots.

There is not much in that area but some mom n pop quick stop deli's with po-boys and fried chicken. You may find a good fried chicken source but from my experience most po-boys in that setting are at the lunchmeat and velveeta level. Although there may be some good seafood on a Friday. There are some Popeye's in the area too and many think the local Popeyes put out a good product. I went to one of the Popeyes in that area late one night and while standing in line also got offered a kilo of hash. So it is an interesting area.

The best po-boy has the ingredients you like. They are cousins to grinders, subs, hoagies, but besides the usual meat combos, fried shrimp, oysters and catfish, and roast beef, are the top choices.

From where you will be Mandina's on Canal street and Parkway will be good choices and not too fatr from you. And the area of Carrolton and Canal has a good selection of restaurants but not so much pure po-boy or seafood.

Thanks for the info guys. It looks like this a pretty depessing area. I'll just take a look around the board for good places outside of where I'm staying. What's the word on sammys deli? I heard that was pretty good.

I really like Sammy's. Lots of daily specials to choose from, friendly people. Their white beans and homemade sausage are particular favorites of mine.

I was thinking LIuzza's By The Track and, of course, the regular Liuzzas is almost across the street (and down) from Mandina's

I'll check them out. I've done some research on the upscale restaurants and look forward to those as well but I was looking for some great mom and pop spots and casual places, and who knows better than the locals. Everyone's input so far is greatly appreciated.
                Thanks
