El Born pre check-in breakfasty nibbles and coffee?

We're arriving early in the morning in BCN, and have to wait until midday to check-in to our Born apartment. We're around Sant Pere Mes Baix.

Looking for suggestions for a good cafe or local hangout to grab a coffee and a pastry (or something breakfasty), as well as our bearings!

Not much is open in "early" morning.
Passeig del Born has a series of nice cafés with lovely terraces. One or two can always be counted to be open.
If you have several hours to kill, it is hard to go from one café to another fighting jetlag. You may consider prebooking a morning tour of the breathtaking Palau de la musica. Its café is a great hangout too.
The tour is extremely popular. There is no walkin possible. You must prebook at least one week in advance.

What is early? it is after 9am, my choice would be the cafe inside the Palau de la Musica Catalunya; another nearby good option is Alsur Cafe on Sant Pere Mes Alt (like many cafes open around 10am). The Mercat de Santa Caterina with inside kiosks is nearby. Cafe Caracas is on c/Sant Pere Mes Baix. For designer pastry with seats, Pasteleria Hofmann is on c/Flassaders. If you are willing to walk a bit to the lower part of el Born, there are good outdoor sitting places on the Pg El Born. The new wave coffee roaster, Cafe el Magnifico is on c/Argenteria. Across via Laietana are good small cafes on c/Llibreteria including Meson del Cafe. You will have no problem finding more by just strolling this great neighborhood.
