Real Ice Cream is Back!!

We don't eat a lot of ice cream, so I don't know how long it's been on the market, but when we went to buy some ice cream last night we discovered Turkey Hill All Natural Ice Cream. It's in the black carton, similar to Breyers. And just like Breyers back in "the good old days," the ingredients are simple. We got an almost-half-gallon of Vanilla Bean and the ingredients are: Cream, Nonfat Milk, Sugar, Vanilla, Vanilla Bean. The ice cream is smooth and creamy, with little vanilla bean flecks in it.

This one is a winner, and we will be trying the other flavors.

After being a Breyer's fan for my whole life, I switched to Turkey Hill (Philadelphia Style/all natural is the one in the black carton, and is better than the regular Turkey Hill in the yellow carton) when Breyer's started to decline several years ago. I LOVE the HD "Five" but it's cost - prohibitive unless on a good sale. Also high on my list: Ciao Bella and Talenti gelatos.

I've seen a few different reviews where Turkey Hill was ranked #1, but I've never seen it in stores. I sent the company an email asking about availability in my area and received this response. "Thank you for contacting Turkey Hill Dairy about our All Frozen. Unfortunately our Ice Cream is not sold in the Western part of the state due to the altitude changes, it seems to alter the texture of our Ice Cream." Guess I'm out of luck.

Hasn't Haagan-Dazs FIVE been all natural for awhile?

TH is ice cream for the masses Haagan Dazs has always been all natural, but it is a premium brand and a pint of HD cost about the same as an almost-half-gallon of TH.
