I am looking for a restaurant on the UWS. I would like to dine outside (weather permitting). I'm looking for a restaurant that is not stuffy but takes the food seriously. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice. We actually are interested in Mediterranean, French Bistro style, New American. I didn't want to be too picky because we would love to try many types of food. We usually eat in the $25-35 entree price range but will go higher if we feel the food is worth it. But we are not interested in "hip" if the food is not most important. Thanks!

Nice Matin has really good food and a nice, neighborhood bistro feel. They have an amazing wine list, as well.

i like Nice Matin too --- it's one of very very few restaurants on the UWS that i like...i thought about mentioning it, but i can't tell what the OP's point of reference is on food or what the occassion is...for example, i go to Nice Matin when i'm in the area but i'd never think of going there for a special meal unless there was some location reason to do so...but it's perfectly solid and could be a pleasant evening (and their tuna tartar is yummy)...

For the OP, can you list some other NYC restaurants that you've like/disliked and why?...

i recommend that you add more details in terms of what you want (price, cuisine, etc) to get more comments here...most everyone on this board likes a restaurant that "takes the food seriously", so you have the narrow the field for us :)

have you looked at the Garden Room at Gastroarte? there's often discounts available if the price is off-putting.
