Dobson NC weekend
We will be in Dobson this weekend as a sort of get away to celebrate our marriga. I know this place is not on the top 50 places to be seen on your honeymoon but it is what it is. We are from Raleigh and love the Mom and Pop restaurants. We will be staying this weekend.
I just read the thread on Hickory but I think an hour and 20 minutes is too far and would like some closer places.
We don't mind traveling but would like to stay up in the north area. Maybe Mt.Ary?
Thanks.

Thanks so much for the report, too! Oddly enough - we had been thinking of driving up to the Shelton Vineyard this weekend, too. It is about 60 miles up I-77 from Lake Norman, so not a bad day trip at all. I like the restaurant at Shelton's, but that $10 prime rib special doesn't sound bad at all.... not bad at all!

re: Tehama
It's a "down home" place called Surry Diner, across the street from the Hampton Inn. The $10.00 prime rib is cooked for Friday night and Saturday night only.
Enjoy. It is no thick beast but very tasty. Parking lot gets full early (5:30) and they feed through the night I think till 8:00p

re: AreBe
"The Yadkin Wineries" have grown to about twelve. It is a valley that has many years of cow poop and low temps that make wine growing a big hit out the. Shelton Vallay was a class on it's own. Top shelf. Very affordable wines. The Hampton was to the tops on things like the "Continental Breakfast tat had omelets and sausage/Canadian bacon. They are the best.
And the Surry county Diner had Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday night for $10.00.

Easy drive time to Mt. Arey and Pilot Mt.
Thank you for the Blessing!

My FIL lives in Dobson and so we are there a lot. As others have said, not much to choose from unfortunately (we eat at Goober's in Mt. Airy a lot, but that's super casual).
We really enjoyed Kitchen Roselli (Italian) in East Bend. Probably 30 mins from your hotel. Not sure if it's faster to go down 77 to exit 82 or go through back roads. http://www.kitchenroselli.com/
Good luck!

The restaurant at Shelton Vineyards is pretty good. For a hole in wall place there is Snappy Lunch in downtown Mt. Airy. Not a lot a choices in that area.

re: carolinadawg
And we had the pork chop sandwich at Snappies today. We heard it was the one to go for and it was delicious.
We also did the Shelton winery tour and ate a late lunch at the Harvest Grill at the winery. Expensive but good . Only problem is the Rueban was served Kruat side down and got the lower sandwich bread as wet as a sponge.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
