Question about The Aviary

I can not wait until my first ever visit to Chicago in June. Already have a reservation at The Girl & Goat for dinner one night and am thinking about going to The Aviary afterwards. I read uhockey's report and it was very informative. I was wondering if we need to make a reservation and if so how far in advance?

I'm thinking this would be a lovely, unique place for dessert for my husband. I'm pretty much off sugar these days but I figure I can have a drink and a savory snack while he goes wild making a sundae. And ok... if he insists...I'll have a bite.

  1. A few weeks ago, they said on their Facebook Wall that they take them 2 weeks in advance for 6pm, 8pm, or 10pm (this conflicts w/ the web site).

I always make a reservation, just in case. Better safe than sorry. And it's a fairly painless process since it's all over email. Just ask them directly!

We showed up at 5:55pm on the Friday after Thanksgiving to a 1 hour wait. Luckily, I'd made a reservation, so we got inside quickly. Also, dependent upon the weather, the outside seating may be in play... or may not be. So it's tough to say how long the wait will be.

The Aviary doesn't serve sundaes... but the Office does. In that case, definitely make a reservation, note that you'd prefer the Office, and they will TRY to accomodate you (no guarantees). This is because Next season ticket holders get first dibs on Office seating. If you try to go after dinner somewhere, you might not be able to get in. They only have 16 seats.
