Off to Phonenix for one night and then to Hawaii

Hello Chowhounders: My family of 4 (includes two boys 10 and 14) will be in Phoenix for one night. We have eaten at T.Cooks and quite enjoyed it. Thinking of Desisto perhaps...Our favourite cuisines are Italian, Mexican and French and wanted to avoid "chain" restaurants. We have not booked accomodation yet but will be a Sheraton/Westin/Hilton/Marriott to use up some hotel points close to either what restaurant we pick or the airport.

You could stay at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass in Chandler and dine at Kai..
Rooms can be hit or miss and more like a 3* than a 4* but your only staying one night.

Distrito was enjoyable but not outstanding. Everyone liked the pulled pork best. Scallop dish could have used a better sear. Huarache was very good. Hubby enjoyed the flight of tequilas. Barbeque half roast chicken was pleasant. Good for the one night except for the taxi driver who couldn't find it on the way there.

Thanks for your replies. I noticed my bad spelling on my request...still getting use to auto correct on the iPad. We would like to be in Phoenix. The restaurant I was thinking of was Distrito's in Scottsdale. We won't have a car though.

That one is new to me. Mexican "street food" sounds interesting. You know more about area restaurants, than do I.

There are some hotels in the chains you mentioned near Distrito. There are a few comments about Distrito in various threads on this board.

Distrito does a high end version of Mexico City street food. I particularly liked their huitlacoche "huarache" with truffles, delicious! Its really not that fancy of a place, though, so should be fine for any kids. They just have some interesting ingredients and things are prepared with care.

Do you mean Deseo at the Westin Kireland?

If so, we have had many lovely dinners there. A bit of a Spanish, and maybe Cuban influence, and very nice.

          I like BeachChick's rec. for Lon's.

We have done Top of the Rock, but also some years back, so my positive memories might be little more than memories.

Not that far out of the path to/from Sky Harbor Airport, there is NOCA on Camelback at 32nd Street, and it is fun. New chef, who cooked with Chef John Besh and Chef Donald Link, down in New Orleans. He brings some interesting cuisine to Phoenix.

          Enjoy and travel safely,

Do you want to be close to PHX?
If not, I really like Lon's at the Hermosa..
Buttes Marriott has the Top of the Rock restaurant but haven't eaten their in quite awhile..stayed many times and the lazy river for the boys is great and Golden Door spa before you head out to the islands.
Carolina's Mex is super divey and good before your flight...behind the airport.
            Have a great trip!
