Osaka - 1 dinner. Where to go?

fifi Mar 14, 2012 01:17 AM

Hi - it will be my first trip to Japan/Osaka and we have time for 1 dinner there. Where would you suggest? We are staying at the Ritz Carlton, is there anything good to eat in the hotel even?
Somewhere with a lively ambience is always nice and that would be a good introduction to dining out in Japan. Thank you!

Nenohi (http://www.bento.com/kansai/rev/8277.... ) and Sun (http://www.bento.com/kansai/rev/8129.... ) are both quite nice, with lots of atmosphere and good food. They're also both very close to your hotel.

I would highly recommend Fujiya 1935.

I always enjoyed Koyoshi. Not the fanciest place (far from it--it would probably qualify as a dive), but reasonably priced, delicious sushi in a restaurant run by friendly and gracious hosts. It's most famous as being highlighted on one of Anthony Bourdain's shows (tiny tiny place--maybe 9 seats with no room to turn around). It's maybe a 10-15 minute walk from your hotel in Chayamachi, closer to Hankyu Umeda Station than JR Osaka Station.

eta: Koyoshi has a facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Koyosh... I love the couple that own it. They really are very sweet (and cute!).
