There was a funny moment on the Today Show this morning. The hosts do a "Who Knew" quiz of the audience. One of the questions was, "Is corned beef and cabbage the most consumed dish on St. Patrick's Day?

The guest commentator, the host of the longest running late night talk show (in Ireland and I didn't catch his name) wrinkled up his face and said that if his mum told him that she was serving corned beef and cabbage, he would tell her, "Thank you, but I am not going to eat it."

He went on to say that he would prefer a savoury (insert regional label here) lamb stew.

I know that 'corned beef and cabbage' is about as authentic as 'nachos' but I like it anyway!

Plus I can make a fair pastrami from the corned beef...d;^)

This one is easy. Valley Farm Market in Spring Valley off the 94 at Bancroft. They do their own corning as well, and like all meat sold there, including their prime beef, it is as good as any in town, but always at a lower price. Very helpful and accommodating butchers.

Good call. I get our corned beef here and it's terrific. We like it better than the house-corned beef at Iowa Meat Farms. And the butcher *are* very nice and very helpful

Seisel's Meats (and probably their sister market Iowa Meats) corns beef briskets in-house for St Patrick's Day. Better move quick, they always sell out. Price is excellent considering the quality.
