Julien from the Montreal Zagat 1990

I just discovered a copy of the Montreal Zagat from 1990 and am fascinated by how many restaurants from then are still around (and also in being able to identify what was where, back then).

I ate at Julien last summer, and while I was pleased with both the food and the service, nothing about the meal made it jump up in my memory and think to go back. Despite having a wonderful terrace.

Back then it got a 23 for cuisine, 20s for decor and service, and the cost of a meal with one drink and tip was estimated at $30. The commentary went as follows: "Well run elegant French bistro that's pleasant, clean, consistent - it deserves more respect. Respondents recommend the specials at lunch, preferably in the garden in the summer."

I would guess that it got the respect it needed, since it's still around.
